Chocolate Buttermilk Waffles

I love making these chocolate buttermilk waffles for breakfast. It is a homemade waffle recipe that is so simple to make, and it goes really well with strawberries and whipped cream. You will need the following ingredients:

Recipe:

4 tablespoons of butter, melted

1 egg

1/2 cup of buttermilk ( you may need a little more if your buttermilk is thick)

1/2 cup of sugar

4 tablespoons of cocoa powder

1 cup of self rising flour

Toppings: Strawberries, whipped cream and/or syrup

Preheat the waffle iron so it will be ready.

In a medium bowl add the sugar, melted butter and the buttermilk and mix this together.

Stir in the egg and whisk this until the egg is combined.

Add the flour and the cocoa and stir this with a whisk until the batter is mixed well. The batter will be thick. If you need to thin the batter out just add a little more buttermilk. Tip: Some buttermilks are thicker than others. Especially the whole buttermilk.

Spray the waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray and add the waffle batter. If you are using a four waffle waffle maker it will take half of the batter, as this recipe makes 8 waffles.

Cook the waffles until they are done and repeat until you have used all the batter up. Place the waffles on a plate to cool slightly. Enjoy!

Note: You can easily double this recipe if you are feeding a crowd or just want a few extra to go into the freezer.

I like to serve these with a side of bacon or sausage. Scrambled eggs would be good with these too.

Cut the waffles apart and add them to the plates. Add the whipped cream and strawberries to the top. Enjoy!
