This is my dad’s way of cooking buttermilk biscuits for breakfast for the entire family or even over a campfire sometimes while away on a camping trip. You mix everything up in a bowl and pour it into an 8-inch iron skillet or 8-inch cake pan and bake it. There is no rolling out the biscuit dough and making the biscuits individually but just a simple and easy way of feeding everyone. The recipe is as follows:

1 1/2 cup of self-rising flour
1 cup of buttermilk or 3/4 cup of milk
1/2 stick of butter
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Place the butter in a skillet or cake pan that you are going to cook this in and place the pan in the oven until the butter melts. Do this while the oven is pre-heating.

In a bowl combine the buttermilk or milk and the flour and mix until everything is combined.

As soon as the butter melts, take it out of the oven and pour half of the melted butter into the batter and stir it together until mixed. Then pour the batter into the skillet or pan. Bake for 20 -25 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy.

My family likes to serve this with jelly, oatmeal, grits, and even sausage and bacon. This was a favorite in my family while we were growing up and as kids we were so excited when dad decided to cook breakfast for us. Hope you enjoy this as much as we do.
Note: You may have to add more or less buttermilk or milk according to how thick the batter is. You are looking for a batter that is thick but pourable. All buttermilk is different nowadays. Some are thick and some are really a lot like regular milk.
