Sausage Balls Made Without Bisquick

This sausage ball recipe is one of my family’s favorite appetizers to have. They are so simple to make and are a wonderful addition for parties, game day or just enjoying them for breakfast some mornings. You will need the following ingredients:

Recipe:

1 pound of breakfast sausage

8 oz colby jack cheese, shredded

3 cups of self-rising flour

1/2 cup of buttermilk

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Place the sausage, flour, cheese, and buttermilk into a medium bowl and mix this together until everything is evenly mixed. You can do this by hand or using a fork or spoon.

Form the sausage into about 1 – 1 1/2 inch balls using a spoon and place them on a greased cookie sheet. Tip: You can place these pretty close together as they will not rise much during cooking.

Bake the sausage balls until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 20 – 25 minutes. Bake time will vary according to how big you make the sausage balls.

You could make large ones and serve them as biscuits. I have done this as they are really good with homemade gravy. Enjoy!

Note: You can use mild or hot breakfast sausage to make these and you can change the cheese around to whatever your favorite cheese is. You can also substitute the flour for baking mix.

I like to serve these sausage balls as a breakfast with a few other options or as an appetizer with a side of yellow mustard to dip them in.
