Copycat Olive Garden Breadsticks

After playing around and trying numerous ideas I came up with this breadstick recipe. It is fairly easy to make, and it tastes really close to the restaurant breadsticks you get around here. You will need the following ingredients:

Recipe:

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 1/8 teaspoon of active dry yeast (or half of a package)

3/4 cup of warm water

1 1/2 teaspoons of salt

1 tablespoon of melted butter

1 3/4 – 2 cups of plain or bread flour (you may need more kneeding)

In a medium bowl add the warm water, yeast and sugar and let sit until foamy on top. Should be about 5 minutes.

Then add the salt, flour, and melted butter and mix just until it is mixed together. I use a Danish dough whisk.

Knead using a dough hook on your mixer or your hands until the dough forms a smooth ball.

Roll the dough out and form into breadsticks and place on a greased cookie sheet and cover with a warm towel and let rest for about 40 – 50 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Place the breadsticks into the oven and bake for 6 minutes.

Breadstick Topping

1 teaspoon of garlic

1/4 cup of butter, melted

1/2 teaspoon of salt

Mix the breadstick topping together and sit aside.

After the breadsticks have baked for 6 minutes remove them from the oven and brush half of the breadstick topping on them and place the breadsticks back into the oven for another 6 minutes, or until lightly browned.

Brush the rest of the breadstick topping onto the breadsticks as soon as they come out of the oven. Enjoy!

Note: You could also use the garlic butter that most grocery stores have if you don’t want to make your own.

These breadsticks are delicious served on a pasta night or just as some very small breadstick sandwiches using pepperoni, cheese, ham and marinara sauce.
