This marinara sauce recipe is a recipe I came up with after reading some of the ingredients that are on Rao’s Marinara Bottle. (Not Sponsored) It is made of simple ingredients, and it takes no time to throw together. I just assemble most of the ingredients and then I let the sauce simmer on the stove top for about 45 minutes or longer. You will need the following ingredients:

Recipe:
1/4 cup of onion
3 cloves of garlic
2 28 oz cans of tomatoes with basil
1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil
8 leaves of fresh basil or a teaspoon of dried
1 teaspoon of sugar
1/8 teaspoon of dried oregano
salt and pepper to taste
Preheat a medium to large saucepan on medium heat.
Dice and mince the garlic.

Add the olive oil to the saucepan and then add the diced onion and cook for about 3 minutes. Then add the garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the tomatoes and bring this to a boil and then turn the heat down to a simmer and simmer for at least 45 minutes.

After the first 25 minutes of simmering add the fresh basil, oregano, sugar, and black pepper and stir together and cook. Enjoy!

Note: San Marzano tomatoes are supposed to be some of the freshest and closest tasting ones you get in Italy. You can purchase these in your local grocery store. I would recommend buying the whole tomatoes and then opening them up and getting the core out of them but you can just crush them up and cook it all if that is what you prefer.
I like to serve this marinara sauce over chicken parmesan, spaghetti noodles. or baked lasagna.
